For Those Who Would Honors Humanitarians at the OCR World Championships
One of the highlights of our year is when we present the For Those Who Would OCR Humanitarian Award at the opening weekend dinner of the OCR World Championships. Co-sponsored by Mud Run Guide and OCR World Championships, this award goes to an obstacle racer committed to humanitarian acts off the course. This year’s winner was Matty Gregg, who was honored for his significant fundraising accomplishments and overall nature for helping others. Paul TenHaken and Joey McGlamory were two of the other finalists in attendance and received a large round of applause for everything they have and continue to do for others. Melissa Dugan was unable to attend, but was also recognized for her humanitarian efforts.
Matty received a crystal award before David Bryant from LegendBorne surprised Matty with an OCR World Championships “lavalava”, a singular rectangular cloth traditionally worn by Polynesians and other peoples from Oceania. As a final surprise, Daniel Liszewski of Thirty7s.com gave Matty a custom OCRWC hoodie, complete with the For Those Who Would logo.
As is his style, Matty entertained dinner attendees with a philosophical, yet humorous acceptance speech. There are some extremely important points that he made. If you weren’t there I encourage you to read the transcript, which is available on his website.
